A lot of people do not understand what a mess goes inside one’s mind so that he goes against the basic nature of any living species – SURVIVAL.

What makes a person’s head so messed up that they decide to stay aloof or away from everyone?

Why does such a person undergo mood swings?

Why on some days or every time do they feel blue?

Why is the person quiet on some days or every time?

Why is the person down in the dumps?

However, these signs are not always visible. Most of the time, the struggle is latent. The mental state fights within itself.

What does society do when it hears of or witnesses such people? Either it plays them down or feels sorry for them but often does not try to identify the reasons that lead to this disturbed mental state. If for once, such issues are taken care of or attended before it gets too late, it can drastically reduce the number of depressed souls around us.

And, for those who are still not able to get an idea of what a depressed person feels or thinks, here is an instance.

Have you ever felt like not going to work, not taking a shower, not getting out of bed, basically not doing anything on some days?

On some days, you force yourself to go to work and you just give up, you take a break no matter what and do nothing except lying in the bed.

Similarly, a mentally tired person may feel like not facing the world anymore. The person might force themselves to live just one more day, but on some days, just gives up. This might be completely true, or maybe it’s not. We will never know. Because we never talk about it.

In regions were seeking medical help or consultation is considered taboo and you opt for it, society will only add to all the suffering that a person is already going through.

We often think that anxiety & depression are just like any other mood like happy, sad, or angry. Like we cannot forever remain to be happy or sad for some reason, it’s assumed that anxiety & depression will also go away with time. That’s the reason why we often see our people casually advising others to ‘cheer up’ and move on in their lives.

But the question is how long does this feeling of sadness last?

How often does an unfavorable event bother you?

Do you feel like not eating anything for several days?

Do you lack quality sleep?

Do you feel like not meeting people?

If your answer is yes, you might need consultation. Or you should be kind enough and ask these questions to the people around you. That is how we will start talking more and more about mental health.

Moreover, seeking consultation is not a bizarre thing. We take our vehicles to the garage when we feel that there’s something wrong, we do not think twice before going to the doctor when we feel uneasy. Why is that not the case with mental health?

It is in our hands to make mental health a household topic and spread the word that mental health consultation is the need of the hour.
